Can a small 7- inch device impact crop yields and farmer’s profit margins?

The green revolution and introduction of genetically modified crops aimed to increase crop yields. The 4th revolution in the agriculture sector is to drive more crop production on the same amount of available cultivable land. A plausible strategy to accomplish this is by integrating technology in the agriculture domain. With effective tech-enabled solutions, ReshaMandi is building the future of natural fibres farming.

ReshaMandi’s ReshaSaathi IoT- The next big thing in sericulture sector

Several processes have been made simple by infusing technology. Things that were only imagined a few decades ago like online shopping and ordering food from a multitude of restaurants from the convenience of mobile phones are now a reality due to technology.

Will technology fit in the scope of things in the agriculture sector and steer it towards profitability?

ReshaMandi brings technology to the farm gates:

ReshaMandi is transforming natural fibres farming in India with groundbreaking technology. It is effectively employing the Internet of things – IoTs to increase productivity in the farming sector. Owing to the fact that most of the farmers are non-tech savvy, it is imperative that any technology put to use should be super simple for the stakeholders to adapt. By introducing ReshaSaathi IoT devices in mulberry farms and rearing sheds, ReshaMandi has changed the way farmers practice sericulture in the silk belt of Karnataka.

What is Internet of things ( IoT)?

Internet of things ( IoTs) is a secure, intelligent platform that solves some of the world’s greatest problems at scale. IoT is an ecosystem of interrelated computing devices, digital machines, and objects that can transfer data to each other in real-time, with minimum human intervention. A sensor, connectivity device, data processing unit and user interface are part of an IoT system.

  • Sensors collect data from the environment
  • Connectivity device transfers data to the cloud or data server via Wi-Fi
  • The data processing unit processes the gathered data via software.
  • The user interface gives information to the consumer.

ReshaSaathi IoT- Precision farming & personailsed farming solutions

ReshaMandi provides two types of IoTs for serifarmers. ReshaSaathi rearing shed and mulberry farm IoTs detect problems affecting crops and offer actionable advisories. Use ReshaSaathi IoTs, is enabling smart farming for higher mulberry yield & better profits

ReshaSaathi Mulberry IoT

ReshaSaathi mulberry IoT has three sensors, one for the ambient temperature, and two moisture sensors, one at the surface soil and one at the roots of the plant. The data collected is processed and actionable advisories are sent to the farmers. Farmers can also avail local weather forecasts that will help them to prepare for either the dry or wet weather conditions.

Sensors in ReshaSaathi mulberry IoT, help mulberry farmers to maintain ideal soil temperature, moisture, soil- water tension of the mulberry plant  The IoTs are connected to the ReshaMandi app, which acts as a user interface. The farmer can maintain and monitor the mulberry farm on the go as whenever, the conditions are not optimum, he receives updates on his ReshaMandi app, with an actionable advisory. There is a massive impact on the mulberry yield via IoT as there will be an increase in the thickness of the mulberry leaves.

ReshaSaathi Rearing shed IoT

ReshaSaathi Rearing shed IoT has two sensors to monitor the humidity and temperature of the silkworm rearing shed. Similar to the Mulberry IoT, the data collected at a set frequency is processed and actionable advisories are sent to the silk farmers.

Sensors in ReshaSaathi rearing shed IoT help the silk farmer to maintain the ideal humidity and temperature of the silkworm rearing shed. With IoT’s help, monitoring and maintaining the optimum conditions required for silkworm growth is hassle-free. The IOTs send alerts to the  ReshaMandi app whenever the ideal conditions in the rearing shed are impaired. The farmer can quickly implement the remedial measure as he also receives an actionable advisory over the ReshaMandi app.  Rearing shed IoT, has paved the way for early cocoon output and an increase in the quality of cocoons.

IoTs are not alone impacting crop yields, but also reducing water consumption in the mulberry field. Also, the farmers can access expert advisories via ReshaSaathi mulberry and rearing shed IoTs. Through ReshaSaathi IoTs, ReshaMandi has effectively integrated technology in the field of sericulture and moriculture. It has ensured that farmers reap the benefits of groundbreaking technology.
